These days, most providers are starting to ask the tough questions, "Am I truly using the best system?", "Is this ever going to get any better?", "Will I make it to retirement?" Let HealthMagic assist you with evaluating your system and workflows to better understand the best course of action to secure the financial health of your organization.
In the game of golf, you only get one mulligan. The same goes in the world of the electronic health record. Replacing an existing system can financially break a health care organization. That's why HealthMagic offers a proven systematic approach to allow for a smooth process of new system search and selection.
The best defense against system conversion failure is to have the help from professionals that have seen it all. At HealthMagic, we pride ourselves on an outstanding track record for managing the implementation process of electronic health records systems. We offer services in IT, Project Management, HIM, Clinical and Revenue Cycle management, Healthcare Information Technology.
Brian Mizell founded HealthMagic Consulting in 2010 after a successful 25 years in the health care software industry. Prior to founding HealthMagic, Brian was honored with the 2009 "Consultant of the Year" award by the McKesson Corporation. For decades, Brian has lead teams of industry experts with the goal of assisting physicians and hospital systems across the country - helping medical leaders make the best decision about their use of the electronic health record.
This letter serves as a recommendation for Brian Mizell as an EMR consultant. He has been working with our medical center for over three years. During that time he has helped us transition our physician group practice of over 25 physicians and mid-level providers from a paper chart to an electronic medical record.
He and his team worked side by side our physician administration to bring the staff and physicians along the path of accepting change. We have now been live for over a year and I would say it was very successful. We did have a few bumps in the road, but Brian and his team worked quickly to find solutions and implement them to the satisfaction of the physician group.
His performance working as a consultant for our medical center has been extremely helpful not only with educating our physicians and keeping our EMR rollout project on target, but also working and assisting the hospital at times with our EMR roll out. We were having issues with the information systems department supporting the physician practice group, Brian acting as a mediator brought the two groups together and handled the conflict and resolved the issues.
We met weekly prior to our weekly Tech Steering Committee meetings to discuss the progress which was a tremendous help in allowing me to support the physician practices get the needed support and resources.
Brian is knowledgeable and communicates effectively with our physicians and our IT team as he can transition from one language to another depending on his audience. I would definitely bring in Brian and his team again for any information technology project for the physician practice or the hospital.
Our hospital made the decision to simultaneously transition from McKesson/Allscripts Paragon to Cerner Community Works in the hospital, and from Allscripts PM-Pro*fessional to Cerner Community Works into its seven physician clinics (two providers were still on paper). We agreed that during this process we would also onboard the Emergency and Surgical Departments into the electronic medical record (which also remained on paper). Brian was brought on board to assist with this mammoth task after we received great references and spoke to another ICAHN hospital who had recently used him in their implementation process.
Brian assisted us in every step of the process, from guiding us through the Cerner implementation processes, to keeping us on target for deliverables and time lines. Brian did an exceptional job of representing us when meeting with the vendors and helping us to understand the vendors' perspective when difference of opinions or challenges occurred. We successfully went live with Cerner Community Works on target after a ten-month implementation process.
Brian also listened to our concerns about cash flow as we prepared to transition to the new system, since we were also in the middle of a massive building project. We did not want to lose focus of the importance of patient accounting efficiencies, so Brian worked with the vendor and negotiated Rev Works Transitional Services to help us meet our financial targets. I am happy to report that we had electronic remits/payments coming into Cerner two weeks after we went live, thanks to Brian's advice and negotiation skills.
Brian is very knowledgeable and communicated effectively with our staff and physicians. He brought his Nuance Dragon experience to our implementation and worked with our physicians to take them from a position of disliking Cerner from the introduction meetings, to scoring it at an A- in the first week of implementation. That speaks volumes about his skills and the relationships that he developed with our physicians over the implementation period.
Our hospital made the decision to change EMR platforms from Medhost, eClinicalWorks, and American Healthtech to Cerner CommunityWorks (Hospital, Ambulatory, and Nursing Home respectively). Brian came on board shortly after we had selected Cerner CommunityWorks to assist with the contractual negotiations with Cerner prior to eventually signing the contract December 23, 2019. We were very impressed with Brian’s knowledge of Cerner and the EMR industry and decided to sign him on to help with the project management of the implementation during the entire project.
Brian was instrumental in ensuring we had the proper scope in our contract as well as strategies such as using AR transitional services post conversion to ensure we get back to our baseline revenue cycle metrics timely.
At the time of this letter we are just over 7 weeks post conversion and we feel we are trending in the right direction. We had claims out the door week one and remits coming in over the next couple of weeks. Brian served as a guide for myself and our project team and we navigated our way through this implementation. We had been on the same EMR for almost 20 years so no many of our workforce had been through an implementation of this magnitude. I feel the success of our implementation was a direct reflection of having Brian’s guidance, knowledge, and excellent communication skills during this consulting engagement, especially with our medical staff.
I would strongly recommend Brian as a consultant on any EMR implementation project.
It is my pleasure to recommend Brian Mizell. His performance working as a consultant for our medical group has been instrumental in keeping our current McKesson Practice Partner (MPP) project on track.
We are currently implementing MPP across 35 practice site and 388 users. Brian has worked as a consultant and subject matter expert, and based on his work, I would rank him as one of the best consultants I have ever had.
Brian is highly intelligent and has good analytical and communication skills. He is able to work side by side with clinicians and help them quickly grasp the complex systems and processes necessary to implement an Electronic Medical Record.
If his performance in our company is a good indication of how he would perform in yours, he will certainly be an extremely positive asset to organization.
Our hospital that was in need of a new EHR that would provide support for the hospital as well as for our three Rural Health Clinics. Brian came on board as the Board, Medical Staff and Administration determined a change was necessary.
He initially assisted in gathering information from medical staff and hospital personnel to understand what they felt was needed in the new EHR. Using this information he guided our hospital through a detailed review and selection process that led to the determination of an EHR vendor.
During the negotiation process he also assisted in identifying issues he had experienced in other installations and provided suggestions that were included in the final signed agreement minimizing these possible issues. He then worked with our management team during the installation process to provide guidance as we worked through the build, installation, and implementation in January 2019.
Brian’s experience was instrumental in keeping us focused on the deadline. His ability to converse with the technical staff from the EMR vendor and then communicate in lay terms that could be understood by our hospital team was of great importance to make the installation successful.
